I can't believe I need advice on shopping...

... but I really do! There is a first time for everything!

You see, in reading all literature on assimilating your new baby into the family without causing your existing children to have a meltdown, some of them suggest that the existing child be gifted with a little pressie from the new baby. You know, so they feel a little special too, while the new baby is seemingly getting all the presents and attention.

And I really like this idea. Because the last thing I want is for my little girl to feel left out or sad about the new baby.

I've taken this idea one step further by buying a little gift from Fern to the new baby; its a Flatout Bear - this one, in this colour:
I'm really happy with this purchase, I've already talked about how much Fern adores hers, and its a lovely symbol from her to her new brother or sister.

So that's one down.

But I've been wracking my brain, and I cannot come up with anything special or significant from the new baby to Fern! I don't want to buy some random toy just for the sake of it. But the more I look, the confused I get... and this is where I'm hoping you come in! Please help me choose the perfect gift -- it doesn't have to be expensive, but it does have to be special. What would you get? Thanks in advance x

  1. That's a tough one. I'll put my thinking cap on and let you know. It's very special to do that. I still remember the special gifts I got when my sister was born (I was 3 1/2 but I do still remember them).

  2. A special dolly that will be her baby to take care of while mum takes care of the "family baby". Both of my older children embraced this idea and would breastfeed and bath and play with their baby while I took care of our newborn. Both dollys are still an integral part of our family who celebrate birthdays as The Badoo also grows up. Hope this works for you.

  3. I agree with Maxabella. A special doll. I did this with Miss T (who was 20 months) and she thought it was the best thing and it is now very special to her. She too would breastfeed, play and and bath the new baby.

  4. My daughters are 15 months apart and when my second daughter was born we bought her a Baby Born (for one year olds so not the big one... I think they sell them at Target). Anyhow I still have photos of her pretend bathing her baby at the hospital when our daughter was having her first bath. Fern will love it! Deb

  7. As Maxabella said, a doll is perfect. I was going to say a special necklace (as this is what my sister in law did) but I think a 'baby' is much better and will get loads more use!

  8. I don't reckon mum gave you a gift when I was born...but that's cause I'm so special what more could you have asked for :-)

  9. I was going to say I'll have a bit of a think for you but I love the suggestion above of a doll so Fern has her own 'baby' to care for. That would be perfect. I remember when I was little and my sister was born, my Mum would give me a small gift each day I visited her in hospital, nothing extravagent but just a little something so I didn't feel left out.
