Cool, calm, serene... helllllp!

I know I was supposed to be focused this week on creating an amazing play area for Fern, but I've had one of those sort of blah weeks... and have absolutely nothing to share with you. :(

Whilst I've been achieving nothing for Fern's space, I've also been pondering my own. Space, that is. Because of course, once you have children you value your own little space more than ever.

I am, of course, talking about my (well, 'our' I guess - the husband likes to sleep/ shower in there too) bedroom. Here's what it looks like at the moment (wardrobes painted gloss white on opposite side of room; ensuite to the right):

I am slowly emerging from a long obsession with the colour pink. I have a lot of pink in my house; everything from a KitchenAid mixer to my beloved Eames rocking chair. I still love these items... but I'm ready to add some other colour to the mix! When we bought our house a couple of years back I painted the bedroom quarter strength Dulux Hogs Bristle and a feature wall in a sort of plum shade of pink. Trendy at the time, but its now screaming at me!

What I long for is a bedroom that oozes serenity, calm, and peace. I don't hate the furniture in the room, and I love my current bedlinen I purchased from the Aura range:

But I need a new colour scheme! And this is where I need your help. Would it be totally daggy to go to Dulux with my pillowslip to try to get a complementary colour for a new feature wall? I know feature walls are soooo 2007 or whatever, but I still like the idea of one in my bedroom! I'm also thinking about ditching the big wedding photo, at least from where it currently lives above the bed, and painting the wall a metallic blue/grey similar to this:

Porters Explorer Blue

Then, I thought I might find a few different sized ornate frames and paint them gloss white, filling them with art like this:

Or perhaps I could bite the bullet and wallpaper behind the bed:

Helllllp! If there are any budding or would-be interior designers out there reading my blog could you please give me your advice? You can see I am in desperate need of a bedroom colour-makeover!

Sorry, will try to (at least appear) a little less frazzled next week. Have a great weekend.

  1. Oooo this is exactly what I have been thinking about too, attacking decorating our room. I love the blue you have picked, but I would paint the whole room that colour, I'm not a feature wall fan. Or I love the idea of the wallpaper just on that wall if you were to do the feature wall thing!! I love wallpaper!

I like your idea of the artworks too. I have saved a few images from Flickr as inspiration that have photo walls/art walls and I'm thinking about how to do this too.....can't wait to see your finished room!

  2. I think your ideas are great! And I think a lot of people take their pillowcases to Dulux, so don't be shy! Good luck. Can't wait to see what you do!

  3. Your doona is SO lovely Nicole!! I'd definitely take a pillow cover with you to Dulux - I've done it before and at least that way you know what you get will tone in perfectly. I like that blue shade you've picked out but wallpaper like you've shown could look equally stunning. I would still keep your wedding pic in your room but perhaps put a larger artwork above the bed. Can't wait to see what you come up with x
