The situation is ironic. Two weeks ago, I was at the point of seeking medical advice because Fern hadn't grown any teeth for a good 6 months. I knew she should be developing more teeth, and I was worried there was something wrong. Be careful what you wish for.
Almost overnight, everything changed. My sunny, vivacious little girl because miserable. She wouldn't sleep. She wouldn't eat. She started drooling. Her face broke out in an evil rash. She got two ulcers on her tongue. And she was clearly in terrible pain.
I tried kids Panadol. I tried kids Nurofen. I tried Bonjela. I gave extra hugs. I offered warm milk when she wouldn't eat. I got up 5 times in the night to help settle her back to sleep. I gave her a teething ring. A washer. A gel teether.
But none of it was of any use. At all.
She's exhausted and miserable. I'm exhausted and miserable. Her dad is exhausted and miserable. And we feel powerless and unable to help her!! We want our little girl back!
Bloggy friends, if you have been through this and have any advice you can lend to us, we'd be so grateful. Is there anything I could do that I havn't already? How LONG will Fern (and us!) endure this?

I know your pain. Or should I say Ferns pain. Miss E gets her teeth in lots of 4 and she does not teeth well. She gets very high temps, turns into a different child, she is clearly in pain. And it lasts for weeks on end.
ReplyDeleteI went out and bought a Baltic Amber Teething Necklace. They are a bit pricey (I think I paid $35) but I have noticed a differece since she has been wearing it. There are plenty available online or I am sure your local herbal dispensary will have one.
Hope Fern feels better soon. xx
I also bought a Baltic Necklace...and a wet washer to suck on. Lots of cuddles and a Playschool dvd might distract from the pain and sadness.
ReplyDeleteOh the poor little darling, I want to give her a cuddle! Will got his first four teeth within a week and a half so I hear your pain. I haven't found anything that's worked very well and have tried everything you've tried. Will have to remember that Baltic Necklace. His gums where his little K9 type of teeth look like they're ready to pop so I think I might be in for the same pretty soon too.
ReplyDeleteWe've left him to play in his cot with the light on dim in the middle of the night, once he's stopped screaming so that it distracts him and eventually he falls asleep.
Sorry hun, no other advice. Give Fern a big hug from me and Will and I hope your little angel is back to her normal self soon!
Jxx
Sarah and LJ --- I havnt heard of a Baltic necklace but I'm going immediately to find one! From a health food shop or somesuch??
ReplyDeleteJanette, thankyou... I knew all of you would know exactly what I'm going on about! And it makes me feel better just knowing that!

Sebastian got the last lot in a bunch of 6 too so I know how you feel. Makes me guffaw when I read of people who don't believe in teething. I feel for all of you but have zero advice to offer other than lots and lots of cuddles. Hugs to you too. xoxoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteNicole - you can get them at a herbal dispensary or try your health food shop. They are great. Miss E doesn't take hers off. And they are also great for older kids for growing pains too.
ReplyDeleteI like them because they are natural and safe. Each gem is individually tied so that if for some reason it breaks, only one gem will fall off...not all.
Here is a bit more info:
"The skin's warmth releases healing oils from the amber, a resin, which is absorbed into the bloodstream. What does the amber do? It reduces red inflamed cheeks and stimulates the thyroid glands to reduce drooling. Amber is associated with sunlight and warmth and reputed to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, accelerates the healing of wounds, reduce inflammation of the throat, ear and stomach infections and respiratory disease. There are no tablets, medications or pastes that can compete with this amber teething necklace, the necklace is unique and has amazing results which are all natural"
PS. Check out todays post on my blog, passed on award to you!

Alex's Nanna bought him an Amber teething necklace and we've started using it already - just during the days. I've heard good things about them so will let you know once his teeth start appearing. At the moment there's just loads of drool and much munching on fingers. I think the necklace looks cute anyway.
ReplyDeleteLovely to chat today.
I agree with the baltic amber necklace - works a treat. I would also recommend Highland teething tablets.
ReplyDeleteHarpers cutting 2 teeth at the moment and we've tried the works..
ReplyDeleteHighlands teething tablets are our latest. Havent seen much change as yet, but will keep with them.. You can get them at most chemists..
I bought Harper a baltic amber necklace off ebay.. Honestly I feel it could just be plastic. Im going to head to a health food store and get one with a certificate to say its real.. The ebay one broke the week I bought it aswell..
Hope she gets well soon..
